THE COMMUNITY OF MARTHA AND MARY

"2016 after the consecration of one of our bishop's, we felt that there was an immediate need for prayer warriors. We knew that our bishop would be called on more frequently and he needed prayers for the spiritual warfare that he would be against not only outside the Church but also within. We have developed since then and hope to be of better service." – Claire Pryor.

Although the original name was the Community of Faithful Prayer, it has since been renamed: 'The Community of Mary and Martha'.

Fr David Haxell, Chaplain of the Community

It is an organisation that learns about the various activities of the Church that are usually known only to the clergy: praying the office; celebrating the Mass; care of the altar linens; how to maintain an altar; repairing vestments and church furnishings.

The Chaplain

The Archbishop of Oceania extended a call to be the chaplain for The Community in 2024, prior to my priestly ordination. I took over from Br Thomas and Sr Alamein Giller.

My wife and I are blessed to live in Shannon, New Zealand. We are honoured to take on this responsibility and join an international family of service to the Church. This ministry, I believe, will be both a challenge and a pleasure. Those not of our faith will see their values in a different light and we can learn from that.

What are some of the things we do?

The Chaplain is responsible for the formation of its members and can invite experts to give talks and train on particular subjects.

  • Architect to explain church architecture.

  • How altar linens are made.

  • What are appropriate flowers for the sanctuary.

  • How to ring a bell.

How can you join?

Please take note that if you decide to join The Community of Martha and Mary you are not subscribing or adhering to The Reformed Old Catholic Church, its doctrines and principles. You simply agree to participate in its formation.
